How to Write your own Ritual!

Writing your own ritual can be as simple or complicated as you make it.  One may choose to do things different from me or not.  This is ONLY an example of how it is done.  Rituals are personal dedication of space to a Spirit or the God/Goddess you are working with.  It should be done out of reverence and respect.  You can do spell work or just honor them.  The choice is up to you.

The first step is cleansing your self!  Number One and most important.  Say you were going to go meet your date for the first time, you wouldn't go meet them with out taking a shower first, now would you?  So don't go meet the divine without, showering, and taking a spiritual bath first.  I'm not going to go into how to do this on this blog post but I'll save that for another one.

Second, one would cleanse their ritual space.  This clears away the ordinary, negative energies, to make way for inviting the divine down into the place you will be creating ritual space in!  I suggest either taking a broom, and sweeping the place in a ritualistic way, to sweep away all negativity.  And then place the broom in front of your altar, so no negativity will come at your altar.  One could smudge the place, sprinkle cleansing powders, sprinkle cleansing herbs and sweep them out your door, or spray cleansing herbs in water around to just rid the place of negativity!

Third, would be setting up your working altar and getting ready your self for ritual.  You can set up your altar as you wish.  There really isn't a right or wrong way like all of the books say.  I put my feminine or Goddess candle on the right side because that works for me, not because the books say one side or the other.  You also would want to dress nice, and if you have robes or a cape put that on as well.  Now don't laugh, I have a cloak!  This isn't Harry Potter world.  And even brujo's from Mexico have cloaks that they use for protection and such.

Then a statement of why you are doing the ritual should be written up prior to the ceremony.  A small blurb stating why you are calling these energies, just let's everyone know why they should bother coming.  After why you are calling them is stated, I would mix salt and water, to further purify and sanctify the space before calling on deities.

After that should come the invocation.  I would call on The Sacred Source/God the Father first, personally.  Then because I like Jesus, I call on him second.  Then whom ever I will be working directly with, and last but not least, the elementals.  I personally don't call the corners anymore.  I just invoke the elementals.  But that's my personal preference.  I will give examples later of my ritual and the proper invocation if you are calling on the watchtowers.

When they are called state your purpose here again quickly, then take your incense, I like to use a crushed mixture of Frankincense, Myrrh, and Sandalwood, I call it the Holy Trinity of resin incense.  And fumigate the place to again, cleanse, purify, sanctify, and seal the sacred place.

Why I differ from all of the books....Well I don't at this point cast a traditional circle.  I feel if one were to follow these steps, with the intent of sanctifying their whole house as sacred space, then there is not need for a small circle, when your whole house is protected.  When you limit your self to such a small space, should you need to leave the circle, it causes problems and weakens it.  So why not just make your whole house sacred, so you can move freely in it!  Just my opinion and what I do.  It works just fine for me!  So needles to say, I do not use my Athame to cast a circle.  I ask my God's and Spirits to protect the whole house for me, and who better to do it than them?

Next would be a written piece, about the ceremony.  Meaning, a speech honoring the God's, poetically stating why you are here, the purpose of the ceremony, what kinda spell work and why you are petitioning them for said spell work...etc!  It can be as long or short as you please.

Then it's everyone's favorite part:  Drink and food.  When one expends energy, by raising power to protect the space and call down the God's and Spirits, you expend personal energy.  Its a nice way to replenish what you have lost, offer up to the God's and Spirits for the work they have done, and socialize with your guests and most importantly have fun!  One would simply write a short but sweet blurb, you can bless the gifts and then eat.  Offering to the God's and Spirits their share first before taking any for your self or guests!

Last but not least, the closing.  I always say my poetic farewells, never dismiss with a good-by.  Always ask them to depart in peace, and pay them a compliment for helping out.  It's only polite after all!  Then after you have said farewell's to all that have come, state matter of factually that the rite is done and vola....you have a ceremony.  I will post in the next blog cause this one is long, a ceremony I have written for you all to see.
