Protection is a Way of Life!

     Taking precautions to protect your self once you start on this path is the most important thing you can do for your self!  When I first started out, I over looked this aspect of the path and I suffered for it.  When you start opening up your self to entities, and energies, you become a beacon of light in a veil of darkness.  Regardless if you are doing good or not, your spirit starts to shine brighter from power.  And power attracts all kind of things. 

     Simple protections can range from herbs in the four corners of a room, to lighting candles, to crystals, and objects placed above doors and windows.  Simple things you can do are:

          1.  Look up in a magical herbal book, some herbs that are protective and return to sender, and determine a number (usually an odd number, no more than 13) of herbs you are going to use.  Then pray over them and put them in the four corners of a room you are going to protect, or the four corners of your apartment or house.

          2.  In hoodoo, you can sprinkle basil on your floors, praying the 23rd psalm, and stating as you pray, "Where ever basil is, evil can not come."  I have done this and placed herbs in the corners of my apartment.  I can attest to the fact that it definetly works well.

          3.  Lighting a candle to a Spirit or a protective candle like a Guardian Angels candle, is very effective as a step one protection.  I would inscribe on top of the novina my petition, for example:  Please protect......(incert names) from spirits, demons, evil and harm.  Amen (So Mote it Be, whatever).  Put the corrisponding conditioning oils on it or just pray over some olive oil, in a pinch it is also very effective.  Light it and vola, protection!  If you decided ( and I am Not sugesting this is safe to do or telling you to do it, if you burn your house down it's your own fault!) to burn it 24/7, please at least take proper precautions like, putting it in a deep, stainless steel pot with water on the bottom of the pot.  If you have animals or small children, don't bother keeping it burning when you can't watch it.  Because if it does take a hit, and it explodes, it's your house burning down, not mine!  Use your common sense with candles and DO NOT leave them unattended!!!!

          4.  Crystals have always been a part of my practices.  Along, with lighting a candle, putting herbs around your house, you can conjure crystals to protect your house as well.  Work with a deitity, and determine through divination, how to prepare the crystal.  Ask them if you should put them in the four corners, just one room...etc!  Quartz is a stone that can do just about anything your tell it to.  It is a great amplifier for other stones, charges other stones well, and can be very protective.  Jet is another one but becareful because they say it can absorb a piece of your soul.  Amber is anti-hex, it will take hits and break magic but is very expensive.  Black Tormaline is one of my favorites, it is very grounding and will takes hits for you.  These are just a few examples.  Get a book and look up what resiginates with you for your purpose.

          5.  One could always conjure a broom, preferably the old fashioned kind with the straw, and hang it above the front door.  They say a negative witch, who intends to harm you can not enter into a doorway where one is hung above it. 

          6.  A horse shoe hung above the door, is good for keeping luck in the premises, and wards off negative spirits.  Because it is made of iron.  Iron controles spirits and wards off negative ones, if it is prepared properly.

          7.  Anointing all of the doors and windows with a protective oil, or prayed over olive oil works well too.  Since I'm also a Catholic, and I practice Hoodoo, I anoint the four corners of every door and window, as well as the center of the door or window, in a cross formation while praying prayers and saying the 23rd psalm.  One could put protective sigils, symbols, runes, etc.  But I would not use an X formation, that is for crossing and you don't want to cross your self up.  That would defeat the prupose, No?

          8.  If you work with a spirit that works well with knives, razorblades and such, you could determine how to prepare some blades, and put those around your house.  The Mexicans, in brujidia, place knives, sizors, and razorblades, specially prepared into their potted plants, placed around the home for protection.  They also put dead animals in their plants as well, but I would only do that under a brujo's instruction! 

          9.  Chicken feet are employed in Hoodoo to great effect.  They are dried out, painted the color of the deitey you are working with, or in a color for protection.  Then prayed over and prepared in whatever way the deity wanted.  You could even dry it so that it could hold something or hold your petition. 

         10.  One could make a decoy doll to take hits for them by making a doll baby of themselves,  Without using Any of their own personal concerns.   Still baptizing it to take hits for you but not becoming you!  You could also put the doll in a mirror box to deflect the hits back to the sender as well.

         11.  You could make what is called an amparo with your personal concerns.  What you do is take two prayer cards with the Spirit you are working with image on it and pluck some hair from your head and put it in-between the cards.  Then tape or glue the cards together and light a tea light in the Spirits color on top of the packet and ask for protection.   You can put herbs and oils in with the hair as well.

     These are just some of the many things you can do to protect your self from enemies and negative spirits!  One should always have a protective candle going whenever you are doing a spell.
